I was told my Chi would be 5 lbs and he is 10 lbs( and totally healthy and not at all fat in any way). Just be careful.
probalby. 5 pounds is not that big for a chi tehy should for show be 4-7 pounds.
you are best to adopt one! there are lots of chihuahuas needing homes at your local animal shelter or www.petfinder.com
dont breed or buy while shelter pets die~adopt. also if you adopt one that is 8-9 months or older you will already know what it looks like and its size.
Chihuahua's and Poms are so close in size and looks and pomchi's are real nice little dogs have fun with your new baby . Buy from a good breeder and enjoy.
puppies change a lot as they grow. you never know what a mixed breed is going to wind up looking like
Most well fed chis weigh 5lbs plus all the way up to 8lbs or so. The smaller ones usually were underfed to stunt their growth early in puppyhood.
Your mix will bark more than a chi, but will look like a long haired chihuahua.
There is no way to predict anything about a mixed breed dog, which is the point of pure breds.
You can't predict size when it comes to puppies bred by people who don't follow breed standards...especially when they mix breeds. Some Pomeranians and Chihuahuas are under/over sized, the puppy could end up anywhere from 5 to 20-some pounds. I've groomed some *big* Poms, poorly bred. It's a gamble, it's not just determined by the parents...but the genetics of the whole 'pedigree'.
Both the Chihuahua and Pomeranian breed are very cute little dogs. Depending on where your are planning on purchasing your pet ~ you might want to check into adoption. Try a rescue group www.petfinder.com is a great place to start, most of the time you can get a full bred from adoption places as such. There are also so many rescue groups out there today that deal in nothing but Chi/Pom's.
If you have pretty much decided on this dog ~ and you have access to the puppies breed line that might give you a good idea on how big your little guy will get.
I am the owner of 3 beautiful little boys ~ Pomeranians, my first one was 2lbs when I brought him home at 9wks and today 16yrs later he is a whopping 10-11lbs. My second one was 1.5lbs when I brought him home at 8 wks and today he weighs about 8-9lbs. My third one, I adopted through petfinder ~ he is 3yrs old and weighs in at 9-10lbs.
Toy Pom's weigh in between 4-6lbs and average Pom's weigh in 7-9lbs.
Most small Chi's weigh in bwtn 3-7lbs. Good luck.
No, 5 lbs is the avg size of a Chihuahua. Now a Teacup Chihuahua is only about 2-3lbs. This mix will stay small, but there is a possibility that the dog may get hair. And Chihuahuas are not expensive dogs. You can bathe your Chihuahua yourself but with hairy dogs you would have to take to a groomer.
