Your girl will be fine. Make sure she has as much food as she wants, available all the time. Ideally, you should be giving her puppy food right now so she gets maximum nutrition. Maybe also add some extras for her like chicken or hamburger and rice.
Supplementing the puppies with goats' milk is a great idea! Nine puppies is a lot for her. I always supplemented my puppies with goats' milk on my vet's advice, just to help the mom out. And believe me, she won't mind you helping her a bit!
What? I can barely understand what you wrote. If you're asking if getting the Mother fixed is a good idea, I would say yes. If you're asking about weaning the puppies from the Mother, it will not stress her out, she'll actually feel better. Selling the puppies will make her a little sad everytime one is sold but just keep giving her attention and she'll be fine.
Hi,my first dog got caught by mistake.I fed the pups has she did not have enough milk.I can tell you she will be glad of the break.I also got rusks %26 heated the milk up put it on the rusks. The pups soon got use to it %26 loved the rusks. You do what the vets say %26 mum will soon put on weight.Good Luck
stop giving them to much food
If you're worried about Mum being thin, that's perfectly natural. Most b1tches lose weight, some go to look like zips! Just feed her to appetite %26 she'll be fine.
My springer also had 9 pups, It's quite natural for her to lose weight, she is doing a lot of work with all of those pups. If your vet is not worried, relax!
Also when the pups were older, she would drive them away. Again, it's natural behaviour.
Give her all the food and water she wants and make sure that has someplace to hang out where they can go. Another thing that will help is mix brewers yeast and calmag a small amount in her food everyday. Brewers Yeast is a B vitamin supplement and CalMag is a calcium/magnesium supplement. The brewers yeast with help her calm down if she is stressed and the CalMag will keep her body from removing the needed supplements from her bones.
Both of those work really well, our dog's puppies are almost 4 weeks old and it's been helping her a lot!
Also make sure that you start giving the puppies solid food and water. They might not eat a lot of it, she is probaley going to start wening them very soon, ours is. She also had a large litter 10.
From what I can understand, perfect. You are absolutely doing a fine job, taking those puppies to the vet. What is even better is the fact that you are feeding her puppy food- most people don't even think to do that, and have to deal with problems a couple weeks down the road. The only thing I recommend is getting those puppies in at 6 weeks for their first shots.
Hi Hon,
Sounds like your mum dog has quite a large litter.. The puppies do take alot out of the mom and now that they are 3 weeks old they are eating more and more.. Mum probably cannot keep up.. Switching them over to puppy milk is probably the best thing right now, but it doesn't mean you have to totally take them away from the mother.. take them out durning the day and feed them and then put them back with mom at night for security reasons fo r your pups.. and then as time goes on, take them away more and more from mom..
The mother should be just fine even though thin, it has to do with the puppies taking soo much from her..
Good luck with your babies
I had the same problem with my toy poodle. She had 4 babies, was on puppy food, vitamins %26 canned Little Cesars. I couldn't believe how much she could eat! She'd be nursing %26 eating at the same time. Stayed skinny as a rail the entire time she was nursing plus her coat got real thin. The pups are 2 yrs old now, %26 she's just fine. I did get her spayed, I just couldn't watch her go through that again. Your momma dog should be fine %26 supplementing them is a great idea. It'll give mom a break %26 let her body start getting back to normal.
Yup I could not have given any better advice than Walking lady already has. she will regain her weight in time. Just keep feeding her good food and you will see her getting back to her old self in no time.
Good luck!
Ever notice when a human mom breast feeds she loses the baby weight much faster. Breast feeding burns a lot of calories nine pups sucking away she is expelling all she eats. It will be fine once they are eating on their own. You only have another week and you can start introducing groul.
I don't wait for the pups to get homes. At six weeks I get mom and babies all done at the same time when I take them in for their first shot.
Might also try Nutrical or Nutristat. They are high-calorie supplements that are nutrionally complete. Places like Petedge catalog, petsmart and such carry it. I'd start out with a 1/4 teaspoon 2 times a day, then work it up to 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. Too much too suddenly will cause diarrhea.
The mum will be ok, youve done the right thing by having her checked, bless her 9 take a lot of feeding.Just give her plenty of food and start keeping the pups away from her and feed them more.Once theyve gone she will pick up.
hi I'm a reg breeder of bichon frise and i always give my pups and mum factor 4 goats milk as it is full of calcium if she had nine pups you should of been helping her feed the pups when they where 24 hours old because that is a large litter but don't worry get a syringe and give them goats milk and try and keep mum away a few times a day to give her a rest it will be hard to keep her away but it wont hurt as if the vet as advised you to do just that then he has told you for a reason i also start weaning my pups when they are 4 weeks old i give them weetabix mashed up with a drop of goats milk and using my fingers put it on the roof of there mouth and they will learn to eat that way and they relay love it so if i was you i would take the advice of your vet and feed them every few hours with goats milk use a syringe and when they have drunk enough they will let you know so try not to worry as they will be fine on full cream witch is factor 4 goats milk and a little weetabix 3 times a day
