I'd consult a lawyer. Each state has different laws, and handling this is going to be tough. Good luck.
that's so sad! don't really know what you should do but i hope everything turns out alright for you and your dog. he had no right to chase and beat the dog!
Well. I would take your dog to the vet.. And get it fully documented the damage done to your dog.. I have to think that someone who was bitten by a dog, if they were all that hurt they wouldn't be chasing down a dog and beating him near to death.. Shows me that he likely wasn't hurt as badly as he says.. But get documentation on the damage to the dog.. Get pictures.. Maybe go talk to a lawyer and get a free consult and see where you should go from here.. or what you should or shouldn't be doing.. I might even get the vet bills and submit them to the water company.. Let them know that you aren't pleased with the reaction of this guy..
Why was your dog not leashed or contained in your yard??
consult the animal association.
Weren't the police or animal control called? Did they come get the dog? Is the dog at the vet?
he can file charges against you for the dog bit but you can file charges against him for animal cruelty. You are responsible for keeping your dog away from the meter man but he does not have to half kill it. Take pictures of your dog and a vets report and go from there.
I think you should be banned from owning dogs! A dog owner is responsible for keeping their dog from attacking people. A dog will protect its teritory to the death, so it's master is safe, if you cannot understand that much, and your dog is allowed to chase someone down the street, in my mind you should be the one who is chased and beaten with the stick! Instead your dog is now going to be labelled a biter and probably be destroyed for doing what it thought was the right thing. Next time you have a dog, make sure you have a secure property to keep the dog in.
Call the police and file charges of cruelty to animals against the meter reader.
Your dog was off leash. You need to find out what the laws are in your state. The best thing to do would be to speak with a lawyer. I'm so sorry, I hope it all works out well for you both;^(
a waiter maybe? why was your dog in a restaurant? go get your own take out, and you won't have this problem. well i'm sorry to say you are completly responsible for any damages done. your dog will be reported and will have a bite on his record. if he's not up to date with vaccines he'll probably have to be quaranteened for 10 days at least for a rabies watch. you are the one who let your dog roam free, you are the one who allowed the dog to get into this trouble. and yes you are responsible. i think it would do good for you and the dog to show any athorities your plan to prevent this from ever happening again. i'm sorry your dog was injured, but your dog bit a human, and this is a big no no. wether the waiter be right or wrong, i don't know. i would say no to beating a dog to where it can't move, but it didn't in turn get up and bite a child is my other train of thought. you are the responsible party here.
Does your town have a leash law? if so, you can be held accountable for that.
If the guy provoked your dog and hit the dog out of cruelty, meaning that he was not defending himself you may be in the clear. Did the dogs bite cause bleeding or medical care? Are all vaccinations up to date?
It might be wise to file a report or talk to an attorney,
This guy may just be angry and is all talk but be prepared. If there are witnesses, get statements now.
Take your dog to the Vet and tell him what happened and find out the extent of your dogs injuries. You will need this documentation too. I hope your dog is OK.
I am sorry to hear what happened to your dog, but in all honesty.it's your fault. The dog should not have been in the street to begin with. I don't know of any city/town where it is legal to allow dogs to run free. If your dog had been properly contained like the law states, none of this would have happened to begin with. I know you don't want to hear this, but if you go to court..you will hear the same thing again.
Even if this person went beyond simply self-defense in injuring your dog you don't have much of a case against him as your dog was running loose, making you the responsbile party.
How is the dog now? Even if he is ok at the moment, he may be at risk for euthanasia now. Situations like this could be prevented if people were more responsible about containing their dogs.
You're in for a long fight. It's your word (the owner of a bite dog) against his (the well trained prefessional). Based on your language and grammar skills, he is going to win, just by being being the the more educated party.
I'm very sorry to hear about your dog, but why was your dog running loose in the first place? The water guy was only trying to do his job, but I agree he had no right to chase him and beat him. But point blank your dog should not have been running loose.
