I live in Texas and I own a Husky. It is really hot for them here though. You have to keep them inside for most part of the day and they cant be an outside dog. Take it for walks in the early mornings or later at night andmake sure it has fresh cold water constantly and mine loves to eat ice cubes. If you own here in this state just be care cause it does get really hot here for them.
No, I don't think this goes for all Alaskian dogs, if they are brought up in a warm to hot climate the acclimate to it, just like people do, when they have to.
Alaskan Malamutes are cold weather dogs. That's why they have such thick fur and undercoat. It will be WAY hot for them, but they can be an inside dog. You cannot leave them outside during the summer in Texas. They need air conditioning. They will shed LOTS!! They need lots of brushing, ice cold water and plenty of walks. So you have to take them in the early morning and the late evening so they don't overheat.
I think it is hard on these breeds in hot climates. People do keep them - but they need to be in air conditioned homes a lot of the time. You can't shave a double coated dog, so you have to work hard to keep them cool.
Like any dog with a thick double coat, Malamutes can adapt to the hot summers, you will just need to be vigilant and make sure they are comfortable. If you can keep the dog inside most of the time in the A/C, brush it a lot (because it will shed PROFUSELY) and make sure it gets plenty of exercise without getting too hot, then it'd be fine. Several short walks would be better than one long one in the summertime, or maybe teach it to pull a wagon or carry a backpack so that short walks are more strenuous. Carry water with you any time you take the dog out in the heat, and never leave it outside unattended for a long period of time.
There are several breeders in Texas. You can probably get more information about how their dogs handle the heat by contacting them directly.

I had an Alaskan Malamute for 8 years and I live in Arkansas. I would not have traded her for ANYTHING! However, it really was too hot for her. We just had to keep her inside during summer- not a problem for us- except the shedding is UNREAL- brushing her outside helped- but huge wads of hair still came out when you petted her. My point is- It was too hot for her and she was miserable in summer, however we made it as easy on her as we could and I know this sounds selfish- but I wouldn't change that we had her for world-Just be VERY careful of heat, they were not made for it!
Hope that helped some- oh as far as her staying in house during summer- SHE weighed 75 pounds- I don't know what a male ends up weighing.
