Alaskan Malamute would it get along with Cats?

My family also has a small dog, would that be a promblem too?
i really want one?
Answers:
Most dogs will get along with cats and other dogs, but it depends on how well they are socialized. Most shelters will let you know if a dog is comfortable with other animals. Since shelters don't always have a specific breed available, you might have to go to a breeder, and if you do, try to pick one that socializes their puppies well or has cats at home.
as long as you have the cat first it should be fine, seeing as the cat will be dominant.
i have a large samoyed which is a similar spitz breed, and 2 cats, they love each other.
although i understand that a malamute can be a little more moody than other dogs, i would watch him around the little dog for a while
make no mistake cats can hold their own!
My uncle had a malamute. Cutest dogs ever. His was yellow. Homer (the dog) got along very well with the cats. The cats would hit him on the head as he walked by, and he would chase the cats occasionally, but they also snuggled. They were good friends. The dog would even open up the bedroom doors to let the cats in.
I'd suggest getting your malamute as a puppy, because they grow to be big, and a small puppy would be less intimidating to the cats and other dog.
I had a Malamute for 16 years before he finally passed and he was the greatest dog I have ever had or wanted. He did WONDERFUL with the 3 cats that were in the house and the Ferrets I had at the time. My guy never paid attention to the cats or ferrets because I had them before I got the puppy. I would say get the Malamute they are great dogs. I would love to have another one but they are hard to find in rescues and at the time I only reused my 2 new puppies!
depends on the dogs and the introduction
Well, any cat would be a wonderful addition to your family, the problem may lie with the Malamute. Has he been around other cats? Is he aggressive towards smaller animals? It really depends upon the dogs and the cat. Probably if the cat was a kitten it might be easier for the cat to be accepted, however, you must keep the dogs away from the kitten (put the kitten in a separate room with the door shut) for a while until the dogs get use to the kitten's scent, then gradually introduce the kitten to the dogs ( under strict supervision, never leave them alone with kitten). If the cat is older, the same applies as before. Hopefully they will become friends, but there might be a lot of hissing and whacking going on for a while but if you gradually introduce them to each other time will lessen the hostility. I hope everything works out for you. But caution is of the importance, you don't want the dogs hurting or possibly killing the kitten. Good luck.
I owned an ala. mal for years, good dogs, if you are in the south NO - they get too hot, and youd have to get them trimmed weekly to help them cool, also when she was five, we had a litter of kittens - her and her puppy ate them, no joke, it was bad, it could have been a fluke but again i've heard it before, just take care.
A lot of times it depends on the individual dogs and cats. If you get a puppy, it should learn to get along just fine. Some adult dogs have already established that they can't be in a house with other dogs, or other animals.
