Akita puppy?

We are getting a Akita puppy and i was just wondering how good they are with kids. my son is 1 year old so i want a very good dog. also we have 2 Pomeranian's, and the Akita puppy is only 8 weeks old. any information would help.
Answers:
If they are socialized properly, then they should be great with kids!
The Akita - Also called the Akita Inu, this large, handsome dog was developed specifically to be a hunting and fighting dog. The breed is considered a national treasure in its native Japan, due in part to the faithfulness and undying loyalty of one legendary dog for its owner.

PS: I have a pomeranian too!, Arn't they lovely?
Personally the breed of the dog doesn't matter. As long as the dog knows who is above him, and he gets enough exercise, which you should have the time to walk him everyday, you should be fine.
If you watch the Dog Whisperer, he basically explains that any dog can be a great dog as long as he knows that he is NOT top dog, and gets enough exercise.
I have had dogs all my life, and I seriously thought I knew everything, but watching his show taught me so much more!! Seriously invest in that show and you will have a good dog.
I personally would not have an Akita around other dogs period.
They are not a breed that does well with another dog.
If so it is usually another Akita of the opposite sex.
It is very common for an Akita to grow up with a dog, seem like it is fine and the owners come home to find their other dog dead one day. I have heard of this happening on many occasions.
From an Akita Page-
Akitas consider small animals as prey and hunt them. This includes cats, rodents, birds, small wildlife and small dogs.
This is a very powerful and protective breed of dog. I would never leave this dog around children unsupervised.
From Akita Web Page
Akitas not raised with children are not always tolerant of small children, and the Akita should never be left alone with a child until you are CERTAIN you have a dog who adores children. Often, Akitas raised with children will tolerate their own children, but may not accept the neighborhood kids.
I am surprised an ethical breeder would have sold you an Akita with your situation.
Get this dog into training as soon as possible.
Why after doing research on this breed would you have gotten one?
This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I fear for your Poms.
Owner of Akitas (One past, one present) and A Pom who would not be allowed NEAR the Akita EVER EVER EVER, and he is a very NICE Akita.
That is a breed that needs a Knowledgeable dog owner. Just a snap and a shake and your Pom will be dead and maybe the Akita didn't mean to but the size difference is too great. I wouldn't do it even with a dog that is usually easy going like a Golden. I have heard of them (the Golden retriever) doing that to a little dog over a thing like trying to chase the same ball.
