2 Week old, Doberman Puppy Constipated?

We have an orphaned 2 week old doberman puppy we are caring for, and he has become very constipated, lethargic, and slight fever. Is it ok to give the puppy pedialyte with a touch of karo syrup in it for 24 hours to get him to deficate? What else would you recommend. We want to try stuff at home for 24 hours before taking him to a vet.
Thanks in advance.
Answers:
If the puppy has a fever and is lethargic I wouldn't wait, it's only about $35 for a vet consult, but that's just me. I had a pup die on me a few years back and I still won't even set foot in that vet's office because she misdiagnosed that puppy so badly. Pups are more fragile than adult dogs and 24 is a long time to wait. But to answer your question, a little canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling) usually makes pups go poop.
Call the vet and ask them what to do. You can always trust them with correct answers.
Hope this helps!
:)
Hun, he needs a vet at this point. Even though it is common to have to massage and stimulate the feces out of him (normally mom would do this, but now YOU are mom!), the fever and lethargy is not something to take lightly.
Being that he has a fever and being so young he will need to be treated asap. I can best compare him to that of a preemie baby... something as "little" as a fever and actually turn fatal, and quickly.
This little guy is relying on you, bring him to the vet.
2 weeks old pups can't move their bowels on their own yet, they still need the mother to do it for them. Take the pup to the vet, it is very possible that he has parvo. I understand you want to do what you can at home, but if he does have parvo, he could die very soon. I would not recommend giving him anything, because the only thing they should have at that age is the mothers milk, or milk replacement.
I found this information on the following site. Good Luck with the puppy. I hope all goes well. You will have the most loving and loyal doberman in the world if this works!!
How do I get the puppy to urinate and defecate?
The puppy's genital area must be stimulated after feeding to cause urination and defecation. The genital area should be massaged with a moist cloth or cotton ball to stimulate action. This cleaning should continue during the first two weeks. If this procedure is not followed, the puppy may become constipated.
While you are trying all this stuff at home, he could have an obstruction in his intestines that could be serious. He could die. go to a vet please. You know nothing about veterinary medicine or dogs obviiouslly.Don't watch him die at home with your remedies. Please take him to the animal shelter and they at least will give him proper help at a vet since you won't

2 week old puppies ...?

I was just wondering if anyone knows/ has had experience with this: if puppies are born with darker fur on their face and legs, does it go away? The breeder I'm thinking of buying a pomeranian puppy from sent me a picture. I was thinking maybe it's just blood from when they were born and it will clear up in time?
Here's a pic:

Answers:
This pup looks like it will be a red sable meaning the red collor with a black guard coat.
They often go through an ugly stage when they are loosing the puppy coat and getting the adult hair.
It shouldn't be blood on a 2 week old pup first the mother would be constantly cleaning them and if for some reason she isn't the breeder should be and if not I wouldn't buy from a breeder who doesnt' keep the pups clean who knows what it might get being left dirty.
Let me say I don't think this is the problem it is the color as well as the lighting.
I would ask for a picture when the pup is older or a picture every week.
Good Luck and at 10 weeks the pup should have atleast one set of shots and wormed several times
I start shots at 6 weeks and second at 9 weeks
a puppy's coloring will change getting lighter or darker depending on the breed as it starts to grow up
depends my puppy is getting darker
It looks as thought it should be that color, which can be normal. It may also change. If it doesn't I think it's still adorable!
yes right now there fur is darker but in life when they grown up there fur get's lighter :-)
i hoped i helped and i hoped you pick my answer as the best!
first of all... how cute! um.. if you think its blood then its definitly going 2 clear up!! but if its der fur den all you can do is wait till it gets older and see what happens!
There wouldn't really be blood left on a 2 week old puppy. The mother dog constantly cleans the babies and the breeder wouldn't leave a puppy covered in blood. That looks like its going to be the puppies color. Pomeranians come in tons of different colors and some are sable. The coat could lighten or darken depending on the puppy. The hair might change a little bit when the puppy coat starts to come out and the adult hair grows in. Be prepared for the "uglies". Poms are notorious for their ugly stage when they first start losing their puppy hair and right before their adult hair comes in.

2 sickly dogs w/bad breath...100% not a mouth problem...anyone familiar with what I describe? a virus maybe?

About 3 weeks ago, my miniature schnauzer started tucking his ears back (signaling he didn't feel well) and having extremely bad breath. Now, this is not just bad dog breath...it is not normal bad dog breath. It smells like something rotten and I can smell it standing 6 feet away from him. However, he eats normally, he goes to the bathroom normally, his stools are normal, and when he plays with me he acts completely normal and doesn't hold his ears tucked back. It has since been about 3 weeks and the bad breath is gone but he still holds his ears back sometimes though not often. Now I have come to visit my family (where another one of my minature schnauzers lives). Yesterday he started acting not quite right. Now today he has the pungent, rotten breath smell that I can smell from six feet away and is keeping his ears tucked back. The first dog that was sick was taken to the vet for a comprehensive exam a few days ago (the breath had past already) and all tests were normal. Virus?
Answers:
Did the vet take a blood sample?Bad breath can be a sign of liver failure, I would have both of them checked out again to make sure they are ok.
Do you feed the same dog foods?
Have you had their teeth checked? I am guessing the Vet would have done that though.
http://www.lbah.com/dent.htm#symptoms...
ok i'm going out on a guessing limb here. schnauzers are prone to diabetes. and when dogs have diabetes, sometimes they excrete a smell in their breath and urine from ketones. only a certain amount of the population can actually smell this smell. i am not one of them so i cannot tell you what it smells like exactly. but from other veterinary workers i work with that do have the ability to smell ketones i understand it's a digusting, supposedly sickingly sweet smell. which could be taken for rotten i would suppose. if they're sugar is off and ketones are being smelled, it can come and go if the dog is in the early stages and it righting itself for now. when you say comprehensive vet exam what do you mean? was bloodwork done? if not i would take the dog's in for a bloodwork check. if it is definatly not a mouth odor, my only and it's just a guess would be ketones. you can smell these from several feet away. but usually the dog is exhibiting other signs such as drinking excessively or not eating normal. but being a schnauzer sometimes they will eat no matter what's going on. again, only a guess, but something worth checking out.
if second dog was isolated from first and did not have bad breath before exposure, take BOTH dogs to the vet and get some blood work. it may be viral or bacterial, but it is contagious and needs to be checked out

2 puppies - how long do they have to be separated?

My husband and I just bought 2 2-month old cocker spaniels, litter mates. A lot of people advice against buying 2 at the same time, other say it shouldn't be a problem, so long you know what you are doing.
We started having them in crates next to each other and having playtime together. They are getting way too rough with each other though and are distracted from bonding with us / focusing on us to learn we are the alpha's... Today I separated the crates, and they are howling and barking quite excessively. We are trying to ignore it. My husband thought it might help if he takes one of them to the office during the week... is this a good idea? We also heard that they have to be raised basically all separate, until they are about 2 and a half years old.. separate walks, play time etc. Does it really take that long? Anything else we can do that might help? They are really having separation anxiety right now big time, especially the female... she gets all shaky and scared in her crate.
Answers:
No, they do not have to be raised separately but they do each need alone time with each of you.
Fantastic idea for your husband to take one of them to the office during the week. Rotate which one. Take them each to separate puppy kindergarten classes.
You can do things together with them, just be insistant that not ALL time is puppy playmate time. Let them play together for a bit and then have some worktime (training) either alone or together. I have littermates and another puppy that is a month older right now (yes, I am insane... 3 pups who are 7-8 mos old!) I let them have some runtime in the morning, then do a few minutes of group sits and downs, then set 2 out to play and work with the third for 5-10 min and rotate them.. THEN they get breakfast. So.. they are darn hungry and willing to pay attention to me to earn cookies (Innova Evo) while training.
the problem with them being together is that they will reinforce each others bad behavior. i never have seperated two dogs to get them oriented the way i wanted them. just spend time with them. and talk to your dogs everyday all the time. if you must, keep them seperated until they get the hang of the way things are run in your home. then get 'em together as soon as possible and enjoy!
I would continue your proccess and give eachone the same amount of seperate attention. I am not sure on how long this may take, just give it a try for awhile and see how things go. Just be sure to give them both extra attention!!
Your hubby is going to be really distracted at the office if he brings the dog with them. I think they should be fine sleeping in their crates next to each other. I have had littermates and I always allowed them to be together while they are growing up. You and your husband could each take one for a walk at the same time and go in different directions and you could each work on training one in seperate rooms. I don't think they need to be separated as much as you are doing!
I know that the playing looks rough to you, but those puppies will not purposely hurt each other, and if you watch them you'll see that they take turns on who gets to win, its the fairest playing around.
When it comes to training time, you take one and have your husband take one. But otherwise don't seperate them because you think they play rough now, seperate them for a day and then watch them, its worse. Trust me, I bought two lab pups together. Let them play, they will be fine.
Let them play what's may seem as rough play for you is gentle play for them.
Try playing with them to. Throw toys and stuff.
Don't worry the time will come, to teach them that your alpha.
P.S : Their can only be one alpha so you and your husband have to deside who it's gonna be.
What? Where did you hear this from? They are pups and pups play and they need play time and they need to establish "alpha" and if you keep them apart at 2 months old imagine what it will be like at 2 yrs old when you let them do all this. Why seperate the creates? Again never heard of this. Let those dogs out to play, play with them get down on the floor/ground and play. If you bought male/female have her fixed as soon as possible some vets will even do it as early as 3-4 months.
I remember with my lab and brittany spaniel it looked rough to us watching but they will NOT hurt one another if one should yelp or get injured the other will back off and sniff to make sure its okay.. Let them be pups dont seperate them
Get a proffesionals help or as i would reccomend Ceaser Millman DOG WHISPER
I think you can leave them together, but when you try to train them, do it separately. I have a 7 yr old German Shepherd who is my other dog's dog. He was a puppy when we got him, we had 3 other dogs, and he bonded with our lab. He does what she says to do, not what the humans tell us to do. I don't know about 2 puppies together. But my shepherd didn't bond with us humans.
They don't need to be RAISED separately, but it is good for them to spend time apart so that they don't get too dependent on each other. So sometimes one should be left alone while the other one gets to go out. If you do obedience classes, try one session with them in separate classes, so they learn to do without each other, and another session in the same class so that they learn to behave even if the other one is there. Same with training, do it together (you and hubby) and separately. Car rides together, car rides separate. You get the picture.
This is handy in case one of them ever has to, for example, stay at the vet's for overnight or several days. This way they won't have to deal with additional stress from being separated.
And as for the "too rough" thing, that's just how puppies play. They'll sort each other out.
Hi 8 months ago i got 2 puppies (brother and sister) we trained them together, let them sleep together, took the for walks together, everything together, so they have a friend when we have to leave them at home. I heard stories of them not having good relationships with my family as much as they would with each other, but i dont find that to be at all true. To tell you the truth, looking back on how we trained our dogs, it was better to always have both of them. also it may look like they are fighting really rough but unless one is squeeling or bleeding its all fun to them. growling is their way of talking to each other. also when one does somthing bad and we get mad at it the other one will get mad to and help us train him. It really works. in the end 2 together is better the 2 alone. hope i could help.

2 Part Husky owners question?

Question 1:
Okay I know this is a silly question all husky owners know Huskies don鈥檛 bark they woo.
My Husky Sasha is 10 months old now and has finally figured out the art of wooing鈥?LOL as soon as we wake in the morning she is telling me all sorts of stories.
Wooooaroooo woooo wooooaroooo, OMG it鈥檚 the funniest thing ever.
Does your husky like to talk to you and tell stories?
Question 2:
What is the silliest thing your husky does?
Mine is playing with her green rubber squeaky toy and singing, she goes at it all the time, and it鈥檚 the only squeaky toy she won鈥檛 tear up! I have a video of her singing, it鈥檚 not the best quality, and I had no clue what I was doing when trying to download it, so turn up your volume!

He LOVES his Wubba. He doesn't even like to leave it to go potty!
My baby does a lot of silly things. He loves talking back when he's annoyed or doesn't like what's going on. He'll let you know when he's not pleased! LOL!
He's learned to open the back gate, as well as doors.
He escaped one time and ran to a Publix grocery store and went inside. We got a call from an employee! That was an interesting day.
He howls when the ice cream truck comes down the street.
He sleeps with his head on a pillow.
He does all sorts of silly things, I love him so much.
hahaha how cute my husky does that exact same thing its like shes talking with it lol.. she wooos alot when i say something she woo what I'm saying its cute.. she knows mama she says that alot.. the silliest thing is hard she does alot of them.. she will take one toy at a time and bring it to me before i have a chance to pick it up she will bring another until they are all there then will bark.. what am i supposed to do with ten toys?? lol .. and in the winter when there is snow her fav game is to catch snowballs and sneeze ... tee hee
my husky wakes my up in the morning doing that
I had a actic wolfXMalamute.. she went beyone the wooo and had a full blown wolf howlllllll .. the funniest thing she would do is climb her very high fence, though not to jump over but to climb up on the shed roof so she could howl when the coyotes started up.. The coyotes would shut up immediately.. she would jump down.. If they started again.. she'd climb the fence sit on the roof and howl to shut them up. then jump down again.. the fence was easily 8 feet and the shed roof around 12 ft... very funny.. she also thought she was a lap dog and if you let her she would try to sit in your lap and put her paws around your neck and lay her head on your shoulder.. She was not an over active talker.. but hated fire engine sirens and easily drowned them out with her howls
my husky is SO funny,,,,,,,,,,,,she is 10 months too and named sasha she loves to howl at me and she is the most curious dog ever!!!
she jumps higher than a monkey to LOL

2 Mastiffs mauled a man at Ving Rhames home.. so whats next?

will people now try and ban Mastiffs like Pit Bulls?
Answers:
Yep most likely, it is just human nature to blame everything else for the wrongs in this owrld and not who is truly at fault. which for dog attacks it would be humans at fault.
Not sure, just as pits and amstaffs, fila brasileiros are soooooh sweet and cute and give lovely wet kisses.
Great family dogs.
Probably so. I think some people just like to have things to complain about.
shoot the damn dogs once they got the taste of human blood they will want more
I thought of the same, I have a purebred AKC Rottweiler and and purebred AKC English Mastiff. People doing this are very closed minded people!

2 Maltese walking one deaf?

I have a 2 year old male and a 3 month old Female Maltese. My male is deaf.(don't feel sorry he doesn't need hearing lol He's great) Well we walk you dogs early morn together. I walk the male because my wife can't keep him from trying to run away. The Female will walk on the side of us or behind and i love it. But our male will always try to get out in front and pull from side to side. I can't verbaly tell him to stop so I try doing the quick jerk that Ceasur milon does. Well that doesn't work he won't even budge when i do it. What can I do to make him listen to me ( no Pun intended)
Answers:
You have the same problem that everybody else with a dog has. How to teach your dog to walk nicely on the leash.
Do you already play attention games in the house to get him to watch you for commands? Anything like stomping your feet, flashing lights, or things like that you use to get his attention? If so, try playing those games outside, somewhere boring with him on leash, like maybe your back yard. If not, you might try working on that inside to get him to pay more attention to you in general.
Next, still working in your backyard and armed with lots of tiny, tasty treats, like a hot dog cut into 50 pea-sized pieces, start walking in a random direction. If he comes with you, stop and give him a treat. Then walk again, in any direction. If he comes with you, stop and treat. If he lunges out in front of you, turn around and walk in the opposite direction. He will hit the end of the leash and then be forced to turn and come with you (I would recommend using his normal collar for this, not a choker or pinch collar, unless you are literally dragging him for several steps before he will come with you.) As soon as he starts coming with you, stop and give him a treat. You want to stop and treat him before he lunges in front of you again in the new direction (because he probably will!) If he lags behind, even if he is looking to the side or at the ground, you will be in his field of vision, so try patting your leg or making a wide sweeping motion with your arm to get his attention and encourage him to follow you. When he catches up, give him a treat.
Repeat the process of walking in a random direction, treating him for staying with you, and walking in the opposite direction if he starts to forge ahead. Slowly start requiring that he walk with you for longer and longer distances before he gets a treat. When he will walk all the way across the yard and back, then you take it to the street. Again, stop and treat for walking nicely, turn around and head the opposite direction for forging and pulling. Once he's with you again, you can always turn around on your own to continue walking in the original direction, but don't expect to actually get anywhere for several days. You might just be walking back and forth in front of your house. Then again, if he's really smart (and being deaf he may be less easily distracted than a lot of dogs!) you could soon be going for a full walk with only a couple instances of turning around. Anyhow, be consistent and do this every time, until he's learned that pulling doesn't get him where he wants to go. This will teach him that pulling gets him the OPPOSITE of where he wants to go, and only walking nicely with you will get him there. Eventually, you can start phasing out treats and instead reward him with letting him go and sniff something he really wanted to go to but held himself back (you'll be able to tell if you're paying attention to him!) Then you can phase those "sniff breaks" out until he only gets them a couple of times throughout the walk.
Good luck, I hope this helps.
try getting a harness for him. it will stop the pulling. there is a good one called a gentle leader.

2 dogs now...old dog keeps barking at the new dog and making us crazy?

Ok we have a 5 month old beagle and today we just got a 2 month old beagle. The 5 month old beagle keeps barking at the 2 month old beagle every second for the passed 5 hours and it is driving us crazy. The 5 month old just wants to play with the 2 month old but he doesnt want to play I guess. The barking is driving us crazy, and he is still barking as I type this...please I need your help.
Answers:
Uhmmm.. you could take the 5 mos old dog for a walk and get him some exercise and tire him out. Give the little guy a break.. Get 2 crates, separate them at night, and when you go out.. Make sure that you give them time apart, but also time together to get used to one another.. Correct the older puppy when he barks, don't just let him keep barking and barking... How annoying, and how wrong to let him get away with that..
Maybe the 5 month old needs a little break and some alone time, or some serious attention from his owners...sounds like he is trying to tell u something good luck!
Devote some attention to the 5 month old. Just a pup but he wants to be dominant and wants the 2 month old to know it. He needs your attention to assure him he is the number 1 dog right now.
Try putting them in separate rooms. The five month old probably just wants to play, but it could still hurt the younger one since it's so much bigger. Don't give the five month old extra attention--that just teaches it that barking gets it a positive reward. Don't ignore it either, though. If you pet one, pet the other. Also, fill a squirt bottle with water and squirt the five month old each time it barks. This works better than just yelling at it to stop.
I think that u should give some attention to the 5 mo old because it probably feels like ur giving all the attention to the 2 mo old. The 5 mo old probably also feels forgotten. Just remember to share the love with both dogs. Soon enough the 5 mo old will stop barking and both dogs will be having fun. Good Luck! :)

2 dogs and a baby in an apartment how am i going to manage?

me and my husband our expecting our first baby. we live in an apartment with 2 dogs. im really worried about how im going to manage walking the dogs enough when i have a baby. the dogs need to go out to use the bathroom about every 3 hours and need two long walks a day. how am i going to take the dogs to the bathroom? i cant leave the baby inside alone while i walk the dogs and the baby will be born this december so i dont think i can take the baby with me everytime they have to go. when my husband is home it wont be a problem but he is gone about 9 hours a day. has anyone else had dogs and a baby in an apartment? how did you manage? any advice will really help. thanks
Answers:
i read your post and I thought " ohhh awww I remember worrying about everything a few months before I had my son too" I didnt have dogs but I had other concerns and everything seemed so difficult to imagine since you truly cannot imagine what a baby will add to the mix until he/she makes her appearance. not to worry though! You will (WILL) be able to do all of the things you normally have to. It will be a modified version in some cases but everything will get done good as gold in the end. Depending on the size of your pups I think the Bjorn is a must for you. I didnt just use it to take walks though. I used it to do dishes, put in laundry, talk on the phone, you name it. My son LOVED that thing and was one of those babies that needed it because he had to be swaddled or up against you or he cried for a few months. if the dogs are small and walk well on a lead you could try a stroller. If they arent great on a leash, now would be a good time to reign them in and brush up on those skills with them. You can take the baby out even in december after they are a few weeks old. Up until then have family with you to help out. Some companies even offer paternity leave now so see what you can manage. You will need that help in the very beginning. But at two weeks, I took my newborn on a cartrip and to the beach in the end of August. Bundled up, a baby can do just fine in the winter.
Remember this when you start to worry - most babies love to go for walks. They like the motion of it and they like being close to you in one of those snuggly things. Your dogs need to be walked. You will probably just fall into the pattern of doing these things together and find yourself walking the dogs more, not less unless it is sleeting or storming outside.
BTW I live in an 2BR apartment in the city with my son, an English Mastiff and a bf who is moving in come next year. It might feel a little panicky right now but you will be fine! What a great mom you are going to be just for worrying now about it!!
I don't have this experience.. but you could hire some neighbour kid to walk the dogs for you each day.
You could wear a snuggly with the baby in it...so your hands would be free...
try hiring someone you know to take the dogs for a walk and take care of them oh and congrats
I'm not sure as to what kind of dogs you have, but I would suggest using Purina's SecondNature. Not sure if you have seen it around but it is a litter box for dogs. When a dog has been trained to use it, they will still use the bathroom outside. SecondNature would be great when you need to walk the dogs, but need to tend to the baby as well.
http://www.doglitter.com/getpage.aspx?d=...
If you aren't willing to put the baby in a stroller to take the dogs out, the only option I see is to hire a dog walker or a baby sitter.
i would get the baby bejorn (sorry about spelling) but its where you put the baby and its near your body, so your hands are free. than you will be able to walk the dogs. but for the first couple of weeks when you are healing and everything, you might want to get a friend or family member to walk them. or you can hire some one. best of luck!
I am so glad to hear that you are still commited to keeping your dogs. They are part of your family, too! I would suggest getting one of those Baby Bjorn carriers that attaches to your chest, and dress the baby up really warm and keep him/her under your coat during the walk. You could also hire a dog walker to come by and walk them at certain times, or try to get a family member or friend to drop by and help you out.
A friend of mine had a similar situation, but hers was much worse- she had 2 babies and 1 LARGE dog. However, she managed just fine, and it is certainly possible to manage. First, your adult dogs should not have to go outside every 3 hours. Adult dogs should be able to go 8ish hours without using bathroom. They should be fed an hour or so before your husband goes to work, and walked right before he leaves. Then, they should only have to go 1 time while he is gone. What I would do is I would get a carrier (or stroller) for the baby, and keep the dogs on leash. You can also go to the pet store to get a special attachment that will allow you to hook 2 dogs on 1 leash easily, so that you only have to use 1 hand to walk your dogs, and then use your other hand to tend to your baby and such.
I hope this helps.there are a ton of options out there. Good Luck.

2 different dogs bred with my female!?

What happens when my pure breed dogs have mated and another dog got ahold of her after the fact?
Answers:
It is not uncommon for two fathers to be present in a litter. If your female is pregnant prepare yourself for the idea that you may have a mixed litter. I don't know what that does to the registerability of the litter but your puppies will probably be like half siblings and share only the mother.
Exactly what you suspect might have happened..
You could have puppies from both dogs in one litter. Please have your dog spayed so this doesn't happen again.
It's called a "mulit-sired litter". Good luck explaining that one to potential families!
As for the answer above me, for a responsible dog owner, it is not very common. Even after a successful tie, the female needs to be confined from ALL other male dogs period!
If it is litter size that concerns you, she will only produce as many pups as she had eggs whether she was bred to 1 dog or 5. If the 2nd dogs sprem is more viable, there is a chance the 1st male didn't fertilize all the eggs.
If it is due to one or both of the males being significantly larger than your female, yes, there could be complication.
Is the 2nd dog the same breed?
Some of the puppies are purebred, and some are mutts.. You have to wonder tho, why someone would breed their purebred, and then not keep a close watch on her to make sure that some other dog didn't come along and breed with her. I certainly wouldn't leave an in season female outside alone, wouldn't leave a female in season that I Had just bred outside and available to just any mutt that came along.. You should spay her.. You aren't very responsible...This type of thing just should not be happening.. If you were careful, and responsible.. You wouldn't have this problem..
You will have a litter of mutts.
I got a little dog one time that came from a litter of German Shepherds but she was small %26 not as out going as the rest of the litter. There was a coyote that got in with the Dame %26 this one little dog was given away %26 the rest of the litter was sold as pure bred German Shepherds.
I learned latter that the breeder was only registering them with AKC %26 had no pedegree papers to prove that they were pure.
AKC is a joke. I have seen AKC registered mutts. Laugh, go ahead laugh. It is true. As a Pet Groomer I saw the best %26 the worst of them. Supposed pure bred dogs with under bites, over bites, poor angulation, improper ear sets, bad teeth, horrible coats yet these dogs where registered with AKC. And they were nothing but mutts. I have seen the best of the best %26 let me tell you they are far %26 few between.
AKC papers don't mean a damned thing unless you are showing your dog %26 you would have to have the pedigree papers to prove the blood line. Most akc pups are very poor examples of any breed. You know you got a pure breed when you get the Pedigree papers %26 the registry papers. But you pay a GOOD penny for them too.
If you spent less than a thou or two you got a pet quality dog %26 the mix might look better than the parent. You won't be able to paper the pups unless you alter the papers, that is a no no but incompetent breeders do it all the time.
Here's what you do..
Get a big stick
and hit yourself in the freakin head !
You moron, why weren't you supervising your dogs?
And why are you purposely contributing to the overpopulation of dogs?
Take your dogs (both of them) to the vet and get an abortion and spay for the female and get your male neutered.
Whooooo hoooo - more ill-bred puppies. It just goes on and on - the big wheel keeps on turning - ya know?
Sweetie: if you were a responsible breeder this never would have happened. If you knew what you were doing in terms of breeding, how long a dog is in season, keeping her separated/isolated, this never would have happened. Just because your dog is registered, doesn't mean she is of breeding quality.
Please take her to the vet ASAP and have her spayed. You are not ready/prepared/knowledgeable enough about breeding to be involved with this. I am not trying to be rude, I am just being honest. Do what is best for your pets, what is best for this country (too many ill-bred dogs out there!)
Even if the puppies went to term, you would have to pay for genetic testing on all of them to determine which ones are pure-bred and which ones aren't. That alone is expensive. Not to mention, there is no guarantee that any of the dogs would end up pure-bred - it depends on which little spermies made it to those eggs. It's a crapshoot right now. Spaying is the best thing. If you are a responsible breeder, you have already lined up homes for every puppy that you created - how are you going to tell those people - welllll oopppps. And if you haven't already lined up homes, that is one more reason t o have her spayed, now. The vet will deal with terminating the pregnancy.

2 1/2 yr old lhasa apso diet?

I have a 2 1/2 yr old lhasa apso about 18-19lbs but this is my first dog so I really didn't know what to feed her. She doesn't have a good diet at the moment because I feed her Cesars and some dry food. I used to feed her lunch and dinner but most of the time she won't eat her lunch, so lately all I've fed her is dinner at night. I don't know where to start with what I should feed her, so could anyone please help? x.x
Answers:
My suggestion is to take her to a vet for a good check up. The vet can give you the best guidance for the dietary needs of your pet, especially if she is over/under weight. It would also be a good idea to have her checked for parasites (which can affect appetite). Did you ask her former owner what her diet was? Good luck!
We fed our two munchkins Alpo twice a day, and kept Purina in their bowls (they each had to have one) for dry food. They did fine, and both died of old age after years of play and love.
i dont think anyone can say wot is and isnt a good diet for a dog..everyone has there own personal differing choice as to wot is good for there dog...many dogs eat only one meal a day, my yorkie sometimes if not most of the time only eats his evening meal so i wouldnt worry too much bout your lil dog eating just in the evening, my greys were only fed once a day when they raced but now they have 2 meals a day, but also they skip meals but i dont panic now coz if they dont eat they go hungry till the next day, dogs are pretty adaptable with there food ..my yorkie eats woteva is on his plate..yes i said plate , he wont eat out of a bowl so he has a kids plastic plate , have you tried giving weetabix as a breakfast and then her ceasers at nite , she mite then enjoy her evening meal as its something different to wot she gets in the morning..its like us, we dont have toast in the morning knowing that weve got it again at teatime, coz we woud no doubt be hacked off, my lot have tripe in the morning and chicken for tea or vice versa..raw!!, they love it so mayb try that , my yorkie loves it , and i only swapped him coz my greys swapped to raw a few months before xxx

17 wk maltese bad gas & runny poop...?

sorry it sounds gross.
im giving him pure wet food.
when he has an accident inside [poop] my house stinks up.
he also has very bad gas..
what should I do?
the owner said to mix wet with dry food.
he didn't have enough teeth to bite it so he wouldn't eat it.
I went to the vet and they gave me prescription wet food.
i ran out and gave him a different type..
i think its the food but im not sure...
what can it be if its not the food?
thanks!
Answers:
I do not think it is best for this dog to be on all wet food. I would gradually switch to a top quality dry food. This dog certainly has enough teeth to eat dry food. Come on, its 17 weeks old. Also this pup needs to be on a regular worming program at this age. They can get roundworms at the moment they first suckle from the dam and need to be wormed for them regularly throughout his first year. Nemex and Strongid are the ones used at most vets I find. I go to the vet and they sell me a big bottle of it for $15 and then I weigh and worm the pup on a regular basis.
my guess it is the food, get some quality food, not at the vet and try that for a few days, also some bene bac.
www.eaglepack.com holistic select or puppy yellow bag
If you switch a dog's food suddenly, he'll have runny poop and bad gas. You have to make any switches gradually. Otherwise this is what happens.
Make sure to get him lots of fresh water, etc.
Look at the ingredients in your food. There should be no corn, wheat, soy, glutins, or by-products.
http://www.dogfoodproject.com has some great info on dog foods.
It's the food.you can't switch your dog's food like that!! And if the Dr. gave you a prescription food...you need to call him and tell him whats going on. Ask if you need to come and get more prescription food (or) when will it be o.k. to put him back on his regular food. Soft food is not the best for dogs. Hard food is better digested and helps prevent tooth decay. Get a hard puppy food for toy breeds..if he still can't eat it dry, let it soak in very hot water until the food is soft and cool enough to eat...make sure to make it 15-20 min before feeding so it will have time to sit, soak, and cool and make sure to stick your finger in it and make sure it is at a safe temp for your puppy to eat. If he still won't eat it...then you might want to try to re-introduce a little wet food in the with the hard food. If in the future you decide to switch food, gradually mix the new food in with the old over several days, until he is just eating the new ffod, or it will upset his stomach and you will have the same problem again!
Try going to a natural pet food store if there are any in your area. The person working should be able to recommend a good dry/ wet food for your dog. Also if your dog has a hard time eating the dry food soak it in a little warm water till it softens. We had to do this with my puppy for quite a while till she learned how to chew her food.
Take your dog to the vet (again).
It could be worms or some other type of parasite. It could be that he accidentaly got ahold of something toxic.
Also, sudden change of food brands/formulas can cause discomfort and unhappy accidents. When you change foods, you need to gradually add a little of the new food to the old food over the period of a week so that the dog becomes used to it.
A 17-week old dog should be able to eat dry dog food just find, as long as it's in small pellet size since it's a toy breed. I would suggest switching the dog to dry food.

16-Week Old Boxer Tears Up EVERYTHING and some.?

My 16-week old Boxer has a tendency to tear/eat up everything in site, no matter what it is. We don't have a crate yet so we were keeping him in a spare bedroom (plenty of room) and he ended up clawing the carpet from the floor (GOOD GOD!). I'm not NEW, persay, to being around puppies/dogs but I must be a little rusty.
Also, we still haven't gotten him used to using the potty outside. He knows what to do when outside, knows what the leash is for and I'm thinking when asked if he has to go outside, he knows what that means too. How do you stop a puppy from trashing the carpet with urine and feces? What's the best way of stopping this behavior? Potty-pads don't work here...he trashes them before they're ever around long enough to be used for bathroom 'stuff.' Am I a bad puppy-daddy? Thank you SO much in advance!
Answers:
You need to spring for a crate, and get him crate trained, especially if he is still sick and not wanting to eat. You need to find a way to keep him out of things, and a crate is the best and most humane way.
Why are you waiting? Get a crate and stop the carnage on your house!
http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.
Like everybody else said, you need to get a crate. Boxers have tons and tons of energy and you need to spend a lot of time with him working off that energy so he's just too tired to destroy everything, but it's also just part of being a puppy and he just has to be trained. I have a Boxer now and I honestly have to say that he was one of the easiest dogs I've ever trained. They're very intelligent. I never used a crate for mine but I also work from home so I was here constantly when he was a puppy and being trained.
Also, I'd just toss the puppy pads completely. That's just confusing him that it's okay to go inside. Good luck to you!!

16 Week female puppy who wont stop urinating in the house?

We have a 16 wk. old puppy we've had since birth and she wont stop urinating in the house. She can be outside for an hour, come in and within 10 min. she's urinating again. We clean up after her with bleach and she's not returning to the same spot each time.
She's crated at night and has freedom of the house and yard during the day, but she's just not getting the hang of it. We've never had this problem with any of our other dogs.
Answers:
At 16 weeks, you can't expect your dog to be reliably housetrained. DO NOT rub your dog's nose in urine or feces...it makes them think you want them to eat it, and it does not help to punish a puppy after the fact.
The crate and umbilical method mentioned before is the way to go. IF you catch your dog in the act, say NO, pick her up and take her outdoors, and ask her to finish outside. Each trip outside should be 15 minutes to give her a chance to go. (It's OK to bring her in sooner if she goes outside). If she doesn't potty when you take her out, then put her back in her kennel, or keep her leashed, and try again in 15-30 minutes. She'll learn better this way than any other.
If you find a spot where she went, don't make a big deal of it, just clean it up with an ENZYMATIC cleaner (Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle are a few). Bleach may remove the staining, but it will not remove the proteins that cause the odors.
This is really simplified, do an Internet search on crate training for more information.
House break her. Every time you catch her peeing, pick her up and bring her outside. EVERY TIME SHE PEES. Eventually she will learn that when she has to pee she will go to wherever she gets let out.
You made the mistake of letting her run free in the house. Pups should be crated until they are completely house broken. If you are not going to keep them in their crate, which is understandable, then you should try the umbilical cord method. This is when you tether the dog and keep them with you at all times, then you'll know when they have to go.
Also, pups usually need to go out every hour until their about 16 weeks, but you might have to be patient, because your dog thinks it's ok to go potty in the house.
some puppies are different than others. some puppies do that and some puppies dont . i heard that dogs in general urinate when they dont feel safe enough so they try to fill the place with their own scent so make her feel safe as much as u could ,but dont take my words for it ,i just read this once
good luck
As cruel as it might sound, there is a way to stop this from happening. To train a dog to urinate outside many recommend rubbing the dog's nose in it's own urine after it happens. Immediately take the dog to your front door. Take one of its paws in your hand and scratch it on the door frame. Then, immediately, take the dog outside and rub it's nose in the area you want it to urinate (in the dirt or grass). This lets the dog know it needs to urinate in this spot. Repeat this process until the dog picks up the habit on its own. The dog will realize that if it urinates in the house it will be taken outside. It will start scratching at the door frame as a signal that it need to go to the bathroom. When you let the dog out it will go to the bathroom outside. It takes a little time for the dog to catch on, but the dog will learn.
not all pups same..go out with her tell her go wee..if she does reward her ..i use walmart Old Roy treats for this..n cuz she has roam during day ..she is confusing herself..if byself confine her to smaller area in house..n i prefer vinegar to bleach..but some pups just take longer n more work..do u remember the simpson's n their dog ..everything is still blah blah to her lol..if she wees inside take out n then reward if she finishes wee..treats best teacher lol gl
Well, unfortunately, Once they pee once,It's there you can't get it out unless you buy some exspenseive prduct on T.V. That claims to remove urine smells for good.God's favor to you my neighbor.
Hi,
First off, a 16 week old puppy should not have freedom of the house. They either need to be crated, penned or watched almost every minute if they are allowed to be free in the house.
They need to be taken out first thing in the morning, after they eat breakfast, before you go to work. If you are home they need to be taken out after napping, playing and eating. At night, don't feed them anything or give them any water after 7:00 at night and take them out right after eating and right before you go to bed.
I have a website that has a page about house training your dog. Check it out, it might help.

Answers:
It is very common for older female dogs to have urinary incontinence.
Your vet can help with this through medications to help her and you out. Please get her seen by your vet OK.
time to see the vet
Call your vet.
She may have a medical condition that is causing her to lose bladder control. It happens in older dogs. Take her to the vet to see what they say. You may have to start using doggie diapers.
It's vet time she has a bladder control problem!
See the vet.
Yes, sounds like she has a weak bladder, you should take her to see the vet!
Aging dogs can sometimes become incontinent, or she may have a UTI.
Either way have her seen by your vet. They can treat both.
If this is all of a sudden change in her potty habits, I'd bring her in for a body function blood panel. See what's going on with her Kidneys, pancreas, and liver functions. A tell tale sign of kidney failure is the breath - smell the breath. If it ever starts smelling like ammonia, the kidneys are failing. She needs a Vet to determine what's really going on.
Either she has an UTI or Just simply due to old age cant really hold it like she used to. sometimes when females are fixed it happens as well. You best bet is to take urine samle ( it's not easy lol ) and drop it off by your vet. if he/she excluede infection then you can do other test to find out what it is. Good luck
yes i have a 13 year old dog and and she pees ever where it is said because it means that they are getting old but you should really take her to the vet because she might have a bladder problem and it could get really bad take her to the vet ASAP!!
if your vet can not give you anything and she is still doing it you will have to put a doggy diaper on her they look a little funny but they are not going to the bathroom in your house anymore!
good luck and i wish the best for your dog!!
mi female dog is having the same problem we went to the vet and got medicine but its not working so shes chained up in the uncarpeted part of our house and i think it might be time to let her go soon it depends how much u want to pay at the vet.
she needs to see her vet...it could be that she has a urinary infection and needs proper medication or it will get worse and could cause other problems which is dangerous at her age.

14 week old puppy diarreah?

my puppy since 3 days ago everytime she has a bowel movement its yellow mucosy im worried but for the moment she seems fine playing normal i have been giving her rice and gastro lyte food what can it be something she ate?
please advice what to do ?
Answers:
Diarrhea for three days? The pup needs to be seen by a vet. Take a sample of the stool and the pup to a vet. Puppies dehydrate very easily and you need a vet to find the cause so it can be effectively treated...
You may want to take her to a vet. There is a dog virus that is quite nasty it's called Parvo. There is a distinct odor to the diarrhea.. Even if there is not a distinct odor I'd get her to the vet. The diarrhea will dehydrate her. The vet can administer IV fluids to correct the fluid depletion caused by the diarrhea.
Take her to the vet A.S.A.P its been 3 days, it could be nothing but it could also be something dangerous.Take her to the Vet, have a good nights sleep. I Hope she feels better. My puppy is on and off with Diarreah since i got him it takes a while to get 100% better.
GoodLuck :)
Take her to the vet with a *fresh* steaming sample. Maybe worms, may be giardia (sp) which is a single cell organism common, but some dogs have severe reactions. My dog had if for almost a year before we were able to completely treat it. (My other 3 dogs are fine, just the one had a problem)
Could also be a natural thing if there was a quick change in kind of food or if some kid slipped the pup some table food.
Good luck.
Even though puppies are dewormed, sometimes it doesn't work or the worms come back. The dog could have re-infected itself by being near it's own feces. As another person stated, it could also be parvo. Parvo is VERY serious and is life-threatening to a dog.
The best thing to do would be to collect a sample of your dog's feces and have the vet check it. Call the vet and tell them what is going on. Whatever it is, if you catch it early, the better chance that your pup will be ok.
my dog got really bad diarrhea and i took it to the vet and they said it had wip worms, they gave him med he is better now.
Please see a vet! A little puppy like that could die quickly with a condition like diarrhea. It causes dehydration and possibly electrolyte imbalances, both of which can kill quickly.
Yes, it's possible that your puppy could get better by itself but why bet your puppy's life on it?
If money is an issue please try to find a way and save up money for future vet visits -- either regular checkups or unexpected emergencies. Good luck.
For one thing, rice goes right through most animals. But just to be sure I would have it checked out for Parvo Virus.Sounds like a couple of the symptoms that are signs of this terrible sickness.
It completely dehydrates a dog.It will break your heart watching a dog suffer from Parvo.IT's VERY DEADLY!
Have you changed his diet maybe his not use to his new food because my dog got diarreah when i changed her diet or maybe you should get a vet check.
straight to the vet. Can dehydrate really quickly...t

13 year old Toy Poodle drinking tons of water and urinating profusely. Please help.?

My Toy Poodle, Sammy, has been drinking FAR more water than has ever been normal and has to urinate like a russian race horse about every 1 1/2 hours. He always has water near my office desk and each time he drinks water (which is about ever hour now) he drinks so much it seems he is going to burst. He then has a jet stream when he urinates often. No signs of weight loss or change in mood/personality.
He has NEVER done this the entire 13 years of his life and I am worried. Could it be something with his kidneys? Is there some form or disease that causes this? Please help.
Answers:
It could very well be a UTI or Kidney infection...You need to have him checked by a vet!
Well, my first concern would be a bladder/kidney infection. Hav you noticed any blood in the urine? My second concern would be diabetes. I would get him to a vet FAST and get his urine and blood checked. Best of luck to you.
could be an infection, you need to see your vet just to rule things out, if he was losing weight I might have given thought to diabetes but as he's not its probably something simple
Cut back on the amount of water you are giving and take him into a vet...something sounds wrong. Or possibly contact a vet and ask over the phone, possibly he can offer some advice to try first.
It could also be adult onset diabetes. This is a condition that can affect older dogs and is treated with insulin just like in people. I had a dog that had it several years ago.
Good luck.
A vet check is needed, diabetes, cushings, kidney tumors and several other disorders can cause this in a senior dog. Good Luck
first off dont leave so much water on the floor and have him seen by a vet
My friends dog was doing the same thing, They said something about getting her checked for Diabetes, shes a 14 year old queenslands heeler
I really think u should take her to the vet and have her checked for diabetes... That's a sure sign of it... I would advise you to take her before he gets any worse, just to be on the safeside...
Please take your dog to the vet as soon as you are able.
Excessive drinking/urination can be signs of kidney failure, diabetes, cushings syndrome, liver disease.
Sounds as though he may have diabetes or a UTI. You would be best advised to take him to the vet and have some tests run on him.

13 week old lab puppy bites while playing, solution?

My 13 week old male black lab starts biting when he is excited and wants to play. I tell him no bite and hold his mouth shut gently for a few seconds. This doesn't seem to work and I obviously don't want to be too physical with him.
Any other suggestions? Is ignoring him enough to make him stop? He has already ruined one of my shirts by jumping and biting it.
Answers:
Puppies explore the world with their mouths. He will be going through teething too until about 6 months of age.
Provide lots of chewy toys and when he starts biting while playing, firmly tell him NO and then give him an acceptable toy and praise him when it is in his mouth...by petting him and saying "good boy" in a pleasant tone!
If this isn't working, stop the play completely and either turn or just walk away from him.
Ignoring by immediately stopping the play session and walking away and ignoring the pup for about 15 minutes is the best thing to do. It's what adult dogs do to rude puppies. Play stops, no more fun - puppy learns biting stops the fun.
Wait a few months. It's a phase, and he'll outgrow it. In the meantime, find something that it's OK for him to chew on. A big rope with a knot in it, a chew toy from the pet store, or even an old towel tied into a knot will help.
Okay with labs they are a bit dumn for some years. While he is playing if he starts to bite in a stern voice say NO. If he doesnt catch on bring him to a place were he can realax and calm down. While he gets older if it continues sightly pop on the nose or when he bites close his mouth.
I have a chocolate lab and he had the same problem. Lol, oh yah and when he does bite try guiding him to a toy.,
Holding their mouth shut only makes them want to play with you more. They think it is a game. You should emulate what dogs do to each other when they are too rough. To do this, the first time that the puppy bites you sharply say OWW! or AHH! (like a puppy shrieking). The next time he bites you, repeat this and stop playing with your puppy for a short time. He will soon learn that biting does not get him attention. If it is just gentle biting, you can also try putting an appropriate chew toy such as a rope in his mouth instead of your hand/arm/etc.
Well, two things here:
One, your puppy is still a puppy and biting and chewing are to be expected, but it doesn't mean that it's okay, as you know.
Two, I think that you are doing fine with him, but if he starts biting and won't stop even after you tell him to then ignore him, walk away if you have to, he can't be rewarded for his bad behavior.
I think that with time and the training you are giving him, he will grow out of it.
don't grasp your hand over it's mouth because then he will think that you want him to play even more.I suggest that when he does bite you give him a slight tap on her nose just to break his attention and in a firm voice say NO! And after you do that walk straight out of the room and ignore his pleas to get your attention and in your own time go back in the room and play with him and if he does the same thing just walk straight back out of the room, and if you keep persisting this he will begin to understand what you are wanting. This technique has worked many times with me and it does not hurt the dog what so ever it's just like when someone taps you on the shoulder to get your attention it's practically the same thing.
I found a good way to stop this is to scream as loud as you can when the dog bites...as if you were being attacked. Even though you are not really hurt, your puppy will get the message that what he did was not good. As soon as he stops, turn your back and ignore him. Do not give him any attention, as this is what he was trying to get by biting.
You need to teach him that bitting hurts, and will result in being ignored.
Once your puppy stops, and goes off to do it's own thing, you can resume play. Just make sure you're puppy thinks you are the one that asked him to play. Your puppy needs to know that you are the boss, and that he only gets to play when you say it is ok.
u need to show him what is acceptable and what is not. also he is a puppy and he is teething and needs something to bite. get him some puppy teething rings. just make a trip to petco or petsmart and ask what they reccomend for teething puppies. this will help with the biting a little bit but u also need to show him it hurts when u bite him. this will also help with the chewing so u just need to discipline him and get some teething toys. when i first got my dog about two years ago i went to petsmart and found this little toy with a squeaker on it. and it was a teething ring and every night before he could sleep he had to chew on each end for five minutes i reccomend this it really helped. this is what they were. they massaged his gums and really relaxed him and made him quit biting people. except the one i bought (which i regret buying) had a squeaker on it. ( i regret it because he loves squeakers now) anyway buy a few of these they really help
http://www.petco.com/product/8147/lil-bu...
Ignoring is a good option especially if he is jumping and you don't want him to do it.
With the biting what you need to do is yelp really LOUD like a dog would. My daughter has a 14week old mini dachshund and it works with this little terror. She is fast and furious with needle sharp teeth and if she bites then we yelp and she immediately stops. It seems to get the message through, well for the moment anyway. It makes her think. We then praise her for being good cause she stopped. It does take a while for them to understand that biting the human is not a good idea but it does get through eventually.
blow a whistle everytime he does something not ok.. or make hissing sounds... do not talk... should work..watch the dog whisperer.. he is awesome.
Give him a firm NO and immediately give him something that he is supposed to chew on (toy, raw hide, etc.). When he begins to chew on it, give him praise for it.
Never ever punish a puppy physically. Dogs minds do not understand what you are trying to get across like that.
Good luck!

11 year old golden retriever mix has arthritis...?

He was very depressed (not eating, sleeping all the time, biting his fur off) and hesitated going up and down stairs and often cries out when sleeping. I suspected arthritis and after blood tests at vet, that was confirmed. They gave us Rimadyl and and Glucomsamine chewables to take home. He wouldn't eat any for a few days (we've tried mixing them with turkey deli meat, canned dog food, and other faves of his). He finally ate the pills and was happier, eating, still in pain but doing better. Now he's back to square one again and we don't know whey. Won't take his pills or eat and depressed again. Any advice?
Answers:
Geeze, another one. I swear. PLEASE stop the rimadyl
read this:
http://www.srdogs.com/pages/rimadyl.html...
there are other links, goldens, labs and the like are most susceptible to this poison. My girlfriend's St. Bernard died from it, my other friends lab and my sister's lab. Please don't give the dog this crap. Use buffered aspirin instead. ecotrin is one that is coated.Glucosamine can cause excessive drinking in some dogs, provide lots of water for your dog.
He has had a good life---now he is suffering---put the dog down and end your missery... pain -- don't let that continue---time to go-- Doggy Heaven----OK
I have heard bad things about Rimadyl... you may want to ask your vet about an alternative pain reliever.
Something else you may want to inquire about is Vitamin C supplements. It is often used in conjunction with Glucosamine to treat arthtritis and hip dysplasia
Take him back to your vet. There are newer and better meds than Rimadyl out there. Let the vet know you want your dog on one of them instead.
I would use two baby aspirins instead of the rimadyl. Newer, more popular drugs that are pushed by drug companies aren't always the best choice.
Your dog is nearing the end of his life. Arthritis is just a fact of aging in most large breeds. If you hold open his mouth and push the baby aspirins back into the back of his throat, he will swallow them. Same with the glucosamine.

Best thing to do is forget the idea of him being a father..get him neutered like you have planned...your dog will be a lot better pet.
Leave breeding to people who know what they are doing. Your dog should have been "done" months ago
what kind of points has he earned at shows?? no dog should be bred without going to shows to prove they are an excellent example of the breed WORTHY of breeding..
what checks has the vet done on him to prove soundness?? eyes? hips? etc - again no dog should be bred without certain checks done first...
did you know that every breeding risks him for doggie VD??
unless he is a quality dog and has proven his worth as a breeding animal - do the right thing and neuter him... he is a pet after all.. not a commodity for you to "breed" at your discression...
does he know you are going to have his balls cut off

10 wk old boxer pup losing hair.?

I have a 10 week old Boxer puppy losing her hair. We brought her home about 2 weeks ago and she seems to be doing well. We have one other dog, that is small, and they play all the time. Our puppy seems to be fine except the patched of hair she is losing. They are dime sized patches all over that she is losing. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Answers:
Best bet is bring the animal to the vet for there are many reasons why a dog loses hair.
1. 99% of dogs are allergic to beef, try changing its brand of dog food to lamb and rice. No beef products
2. 50$ of dogs are allergic to grass and dirt. In this case the dog would nees injections of either benedryl or cortizone.
3. It could be ringworm, very contagious to humans and other animals. This needs to be treated professionally with medications. They are round bald patches that have no hair what so ever. Even the slightest bit of hair does not symbolize ringworm.
4. Since it is a puppy it could have demadex mange. Not contagious to other animals. Normally it is the hormones within the puppy and clears of with proper medication. Even altering an animal can fix this problem because you are removing these hormones.
Like I said, dogs get many skin conditions and needs to be seen by the vet, so a proper diagnosis can be given
demodectic mange
She needs a skin scraping.
There is a possibility that it is ringworm, but since it is a puppy, I would assume it is demodectic mange. The preferred treatment is large doses of ivermectin. It is not contagious to dogs with healthy immune systems. Good luck.
The best place to start would be with a vet...
Ya, most likely mange. But, there are other possibilities.
It could be stress licking/scratching. A new home is very stressful to pups and they may over groom and get a few patches.
Or, it might be allergies. Ten percent (I'm told) of dogs have some sort of allergy (usually food) that can have a lot of different symptoms. Chronic ear infections (and general grubbiness of the ear), irregularity of bowel movements, hot spots, hair loss, etc. I'm not sure if a dog that young can have allergies though.
Whatever it may be, you should go to the vet. It's best to be sure, especially with puppies.
i can be fleas just take her to the vet

1 yr 1/2 lab 1/2 ? male will NOT stop peeing in the house. When he lifts his leg furn gets wet too. HELP?

He will pee and poop outside if I go with him but that is not always possible. Sometimes he stays out for an hour and comes in and pees and poops on the floor right in front of me. I have tried punishment and putting him in a crate. I have tried rewards when he goes outside. He is very dominating but not mean. Very playful with kids, grown ups and other dogs. I have sprayed the Doggie No in his favorite spots and it just seems to annoy him. I took him to obedience training. The trainer told me that he is too dominate and she really couldn't do anything with him. I have taught him to sit but that's about it. He is good company but a bad boy. Any thing I could mop the floor with or anything other ideas would be very much appreciated. I've tried bleach and vinegar already. Thanks.
Answers:
I had the same problem and not only did my one dog do this but my other trained dog then started doing it also. What we did was clean the area very well and then put a spray on it that got rid of the smell. They sell these types of sprays at petstores because it may not smell to you but they can still smell it so you have to get rid of the smell. FYI this is not the same type of spray as the Doggie No. You want something to get rid of the smell not deture them from going in the area because they can just go somewhere else. Then we would take them out at set times everyday. In addition to the set times take them out a little bit after they drink a lot or eat. When you take him out don't let him play and stop any playtimes outside until the problem is corrected. This is so that he knows that outside is bathroom time not playtime. If he does not go after a few minutes and you know he needs to go then bring him and crate him for about five minutes and repeat the process. As far as training you need to reward positive behavior and studies show that punishment does not do anything but make them loose trust in you. They do not have the memory that a person does so if you catch him in the act then give him a firm no but punishing him after the fact or putting him in a crate after does nothing because they have already forgotten what they did wrong. If you want him to learn anything else other than sit try wearing him out and then training. Many animals will learn better when they are worn out because they are not so wired up. If he really is too dominate right now then it is important to teach him these other tricks because it also teaches him that you are in charge by making him do something that he was not going to do.
If he is not neutered, getting him neutered will help with stopping him from marking in the house. And it sounds like you might have to start all over again with potty training. Start from the beginning as if he was a puppy. You have to stay out there with him, until he does his business. And if you catch him trying to go in the house, give a firm NO and take him immediately outside. The problem seems to be occuring when you are not able to be out there with him. So that is what needs to change. You need to be out there with him until he goes.
Try to wipe the floors with Nature's Miracle. It will take the scent of his pee and poop out of the house and he will be less likely to do it inside if all of his favorite spots seem to have disappeared. If one is near you, try taking him to Comprehensive Pet Therapy, which is a training place. There are some trainers there that offer special courses for dominant dogs. You could also try ignoring him when he pees/poops inside because he might just be doing it for attention.
neuter him.
don't use his crate as a punishment.
stay out side with him when he does his business.
find another trainer, dominate dogs CAN be trained.
have him nuetered...hes being terroritorial..

Answers:
Yes, get advantage flea killer and preventer, just ask your local vet if he sells it, put it on yourself,
Or ask your vet to put it on all your dogs,
Fleas spread very easily, and in hardly any time, so make sure you treat all your dogs,
Then get a flea shampoo and bathe them in it to prevent fleas in the future,
But most of all make sure you treat all your dogs, because chances are they have them too.
Seperate the dogs and take a visit to the vets
yes bath all of them with dawn or flea shampoo.
get frontline and treat all and if in the house treat the house the general rule is for every flea you see there is 100 in teh house.
fleas don't live on teh dog but jump on tehm to eat ( blood)
the rest of the dogs will have them. fleas spend most of their life in the environment and very little on the dog itself so i would advise you to get a good flea spray or shampoo for the carpets and beds in your house. also treat the andimals with a flea treatment - in the vets usually the ones in supermarkets are useless
Bath her in tee tree shampoo and then spritz her with a solution of tee tree oil and water. In fact you can do this to all of them. Watch the fleas jump off !!
just to be safe get all three of them fly collars and maybe some good flea shampoo
If 1 has them they all will get them.
Flea baths, monthly flea control like Revolution, Frontline or Advantage., frequent vacuuming, wash all their bedding, etc.
You must treat them and the house. Fleas live on them, in your home and in the yard.
treat all the dogs
DONT touch your other animals with any of that stuff
[xx]
DONT use flea colars
that is just putting harsh chemicals rite by the faces of your loved dogs
Here is my blurb on fleas, written for cat owners, but it applies to dogs as well. Be sure you evacuate ALL your pets if you flea bomb your house. And, I am sure you can soap up your dog's rear and privates with Dawn (see eblow).
PART ONE - Treat your pets:
Advantage and Frontline spot treatments both work well, but each works only on a certain type of flea. All the other flea collars out there are useless or dangerous. Call your vet to find out which works best in your area.
You need to bathe your cats first. Shampoo them with Dawn dishwashing liquid and leave the soapy lather on for 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to get it in your pets' eyes. Rinse them thoroughly. When they are dry apply the drops.
Even after you have treated your home (PART TWO below), you'll have to comb your pets out every day with a flea comb, as new fleas will continue to hatch out for a month from your rugs. Your set-up will be: the flea comb, a zip lock baggie, a lint roller. As you comb out each cat, stick the hair, dirt and fleas to sheets of the lint roller. When you catch a flea, quickly behead him with the flea comb, so he cannot wiggle free. Dispose of the lint sheets in the ziplock bag, and to be safe put it into a second ziplock baggie. Go on to the next animal. You'll know it when your pets are becoming cleaner. At the worst phase you'll need to do this every day or twice a day for each pet.
PART TWO - Treat your home: Do not call a pest control service. They put down some chemicals, and spray some, mostly without any consideration for the safety of you and your pets (birds are especially vulnerable to all kinds of chemicals). You do not want any chemical residue left in your home, do you?
Go to Home Depot and get "foggers" or "fog bombs" of the strongest type you can. (This needs to be done by an adult). You're going to have to fog your home at least twice. But one fogger for each 1000 square feet of your home - for each session. So if you have 3000 square feet, buy 6 foggers. Be prepared to evacuate all animals and people from the house for the duration of the fogger plus 2 hours. Prepare carefully, according to instructions (cover food prep areas, put food away, turn off electricity and pilot lights, etc.) Everyone out, set up your foggers and set them off according to a plan, which will leave the door you exit from last. When the time is up, you'll need to come back in the house to open all the windows, and put on the fan, to let the air out of the house. Ventillate for 1-2 hours this way. Don't let anyone in before this has finished. Fog again in 2 weeks. (You are lucky if you can do this during the summer months!)
PART THREE - more house preparation: If you have a fair amount of carpet, this is not going to be enough to get rid of your fleas. All carpet must be washed thoroughly and vacuumed. If you have orientals, send them out for cleaning. (Don't forget the cat tree and doggie beds!)
Even after the carpets have been washed thoroughly and professionally, fleas may still hatch out. You'll need to vacuum the entire carpeted area of the house every day. Each day, immediately after the vacuuming is finished - remove your vacuum bag, seal it in double layer of plastic ziplock bags, and put in a new bag.
If you can buy (either on the Internet or at your vet) some spray Frontline or Advantage, put a tiny bit on a sponge and lightly rub it into some problem carpet areas. Also, you can treat a room that is isolated with carpet, by rubbing a mixture of table salt and Borax (1:1) into it, waiting 7-10 days, then vacuuming it up thoroughly.
I'm sorry to tell you all this, but you'll probably have excellent controll of all fleas within a month. You're going to think "My life is fleas!" But, this will pass and your pets will be flea-free and healthy.
PART FOUR - avoiding reinfestation: Make sure your cats get their treatment every month. We use Frontline and it is very expensive, but if we had 5 cats or dogs I would definitely use the spray (one squirt to the back of the neck skin) to save money. Comb your cats at least once a week after the fleas have passed, and keep a close eye on the situation.

Answers:
I have had two minpins. They are very hyper dogs, with a lot of personality. These are very smart dogs which can make them a challenge to handle however they are well worth the effort. Mine always were a great source of entertainment to me. They think that they are big tough dogs and act as if they are not aware that they are really small dogs.
I hope that this has helped some. Good luck.
hyper
yappy
bossy to other dogs
playful
smart
very high energy
Min Pins are burrowers. Mine will dig in the blankets to get covered up. They are kind of neurotic and high strung. They are very loving and loyal pets. They can be a bit barky, but you can train that out of them. They make good watch dogs and great companions. I think they are wonderful pets!
They are the most hyper dog on the planet. All they do is run, run, run and jump, jump, jump. I'm sure they are lovable if you can get them to stay still for a second.
Oh, yea. And they yap constantly at any little noise.

A Miniature Pinscher may be right for you if you want a dog who...
* Looks like a very small Doberman, with the same colors, sleek elegant build, and keen expression
* Moves swiftly with a quick prancing gait
* Has a short easy-care coat
* Is energetic and "busy" athletic and agile
* Is feisty and assertive -- definitely not a submissive or delicate lap dog
* Always seems to be observing, thinking, and planning what to do next
* Makes a keen watchdog
A Miniature Pinscher may not be right for you if you don't want to deal with...
* A dynamic dog who seems to be in perpetual motion
* Providing enough exercise and activities to keep them busy
* Destructiveness when bored
* Extreme suspiciousness toward strangers
* Aggression toward other animals -- chasing instincts
* Escape attempts and running away
* Strong-willed mind of his own, requiring a confident owner who can take charge
* Notorious housebreaking difficulties
* Barking

..What's a puppy mill?

Ahh I feel so stupid right now. I have an idea of what puppy mills are but I'm not entirely sure... help? :c
Answers:
What is a Puppy Mill?

"Puppy Mills", also known as "commercial breeders" in the eyes of the government, breed thousands of puppies a year for sale to pet shops across the country.
In a world of "pregnancy for profit," most of these dogs are forced to live their entire, sometimes very short lives, in dark warehouses . . . in tiny, crowded, and indescribably filthy conditions. Females are bred continuously until they die.
Between pregnancies, hundreds of dogs compete for attention and food - their bony bodies a testament to inadequate food and water, substandard housing, insufficient exercise and infrequent, if any, veterinary care. Puppies are taken away from their mothers as young as four weeks of age, packed several to a crate, with little food, water, or ventilation and transported to pet stores across the country.
Many times the puppies arrive at the pet stores malnourished or ill; some never make it at all. The people who buy these puppies think they are taking home a healthy, well adjusted companion animal. But sadly, many times they discover they have purchased a dog that has a personality problem, disease, or genetic defect - caused by over breeding, inbreeding, or the unsanitary, squalid conditions at the puppy mill.
Several puppy mill/commercial breeder facilities that are not the filthy norm. The dogs live in fairly clean areas, kennel runs and some even in the house. This does not sound like a typical mill now does it? It is though. It is, because these dogs are bred every time they come into season without doing any genetic testing and they are not even necessarily bred to the same breed.
These dogs may not live several crammed into a wire rabbit cage, may get groomed or may even sleep on someone's bed doesn't change the fact that they are bred every single season until their little bodies are failing.
Bottom line...a puppy mill, or, to be politically correct, commercial breeder, is in business to crank out as many puppies as they can to sell to pet stores, flea markets, on the side of the road, individual ads in the paper and now through internet classified ads.

What is a Puppy Mill?
http://www.hua.org/prisoners/puppymills.
Hundreds of thousands of puppies are raised each year in puppy mills.
Mills are distinguished by their cramped, crude, filthy conditions and the constant breeding of unhealthy and genetically defective dogs solely for profit.
Very often the dogs in puppy mills are covered with matted, filthy hair, their teeeth are rotting and their eyes have ulcers. We have seen many dogs whose jaws have rotted because of tooth decay.
The dogs are kept in small wire cages for their entire lives. They never are allowed out. They never touch solid ground or grass.
Many of the dogs are injured in fights that occur in the cramped cages from which there is no escape.
Many dogs lose feet and legs when they are caught in the wire floors of the cages and cut off as the dog struggles to free themselves.
Very often there is no heat or airconditioning in a puppymill. The dogs freeze in the winter and die of heat stroke in the summer. Puppies "cook" on the wires of the cages in the summer.
Female dogs are usually bred the first time they come into heat and are bred every heat cycle. They are breed until their poor worn out bodies can't reproduce any longer abnd then they are killed. Often they are killed by being bashed in the head with a rock or shot. Sometimes they are sold to laboratories or dumped. This is often by the time they reach five years old.
Puppy mills and pet stores maximize their profits by not spending money on proper food, housing or veterinary care.
The food that is fed in puppy mills is often purchased from dog food companies by the truck load. It is often made of the sweepings from the floor. It is so devoid of nutritional value that the dogs' teeth rot at early ages.
Dogs in puppymills are debarked often by ramming a steel rod down their throats to reputure their vocal cords.
Puppies are taken from their mother when they are 5 to 8 weeks old and sold to brokers who pack them in crates for resale to pet stores all over the country.
The puppies are shipped by truck or plane and often without adequate food, water, ventilation or shelter.
Many of the puppies do not survive the trip.
Innocent families buy the puppies only to find that the puppy is very ill or has genetic or emotional problems. Often the puppies die of disease. Many other have medical problems that cost thousands of dollars. And many have emotional problems because they have not been properly socialized in the mills. Don't bring this misery into your home.
Many of the 4000 federally licensed breeding kennels have substandard conditions.
Approximately 3,500 petstores in the United States sell puppies. They sell approximately 500,000 thousand puppies a year. It is estimated that the puppy industry in Missouri is valued at 40 million dollars a year. The puppy industry in one county in Pennsylvania, Lancaster, is valued at 4 million dollars a year.
There are seven states that are known as puppymill states because they have the majority of the puppymills in the country. They are: Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
There is federal law, the Animal Welfare Act, and many states have laws that purport to regulate puppymills but the fact is that those laws are rarely enforced.
Our research has shown that 98% of the puppies sold in petstores come from facilities that we consider to be puppymills. Petstores often tell customers that their puppies come from local breeders or quality breeders. Don't believe them, ask to see the paperwork and find out where the puppies really come from. We even heard about a sign in a Massachusetts petstore that said their puppies were lovingly raised in homes in Missouri. Those puppies actually came from the notorious Do-Bo-Tri in Missouri - a puppymill that has been cited numerous times for violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
If the people of the United States refused to buy a puppy in a petstore, the misery of puppy mills would end. Please tell everyone you know about puppymills and the petstore connection.
There is no excuse for the abuse of mills to continue. Boycott stores that sell puppies.
It is a place where they breed puppies for the sole purpose of selling them for money. The places are disreputable and conditions are often poor subjecting the animals to disease and poor health
An operation that breeds several different breeds of dog for nothing but profit, with no regards to the dogs' health/temperment.
Here's a link:
Puppy mills are "breeding" centers that cage the parents in tiny cages their whole lives, forcing them to breed to young and at every heat cycle with no concern to the parent's health or the puppie's health.
http://stoppuppymills.org/
Not everyone who breeds for money is a puppy mill.
Backyard breeders are looked down upon for breeding irresponsibly, like not doing genetic testing, but there are many breeders that breed backyard that are responsible, so backyard breeder is generally just a term used to desribe irresponsibilty. Puppy mills are cruel and disgusting, not just irresponsible, so they are two different things.
It's a for-profit breeding operation where dogs are typically housed in crates and repeatedly bred to create as many puppies as possible without regard to the parents' or puppies' well-being.
Another good site regarding puppy mills is provided by the Humane Society of the U.S. (below).
its ok that u dont know. i never really knew until i started reading questions on here either. let me show u the horrors of puppy mills. i think u will find the answer to ur question on this page
http://www.prisonersofgreed.org/...
hope this helps
people who continuously breed dogs for profit. the animals are in generally poor condition or sick. kept only for breeding and never free...
It is where females and males are kept and breed back to back with the sole purpose of selling the puppys in quanitees. Usually not well cared for.
something illegal! they have so many dogs having babies and poor shelters for all these animals! It is all bad! they will go to jail if they get caught doing this! If you know someone doing this report it!
Those are great links. Puppy mills are not illegal though. The US and Canadian Government has standards for puppymills (they have a nicer name for them I am sure) and many of them meet these standards. That doesn't mean they're not awful places- it just means our standards are way too low.
Before I didn't know what puppy mills were either. But here is what they are. They breed dogs for money, and all of them are poorly taken care of. Actually, they are never taken care of except for feeding. If you go on YouTube.com and type in puppy mills, there are a lot of movies on them. If you see a dog being sold in a mall, it is from a puppy mill, and if you buy it, that one puppy will keep the puppy mills going. If the dog can't have puppies any more, she is killed. So puppy mills are terrible organizations that people are supporting and don't realize it. Puppy mills are terrible.
oh, don't feel stupid. Lots of people have no idea. At least you are asking the question and are willing to learn. I will warn you, as a dog lover, this stuff is graphic and disgusting.
Do lots of research before you get a dog. Rescue, if you have it in you, or buy from a reputable breeder that lets you see where their dogs are kept and has health certificates and all that.

*Sorta Funny* I thought this girl with a Yorkie was asking about my dog but...?

Okay I went to this website called Doggie-Dating.co.uk and I decided to sign my Yorkie up because it was funny and cute and like the next day I got a message... it was from someone named pelovesbaby and she said her name was Divine. So I stupidly read the letter and replied thinking she was writing as she was her dog was replying. My dog is a mail so I pretended I was my dog (ha,ha, stupid,eh?) and she wrote me back today. She attached a photo and said she is now a refugee in Senegal and her mother and her father just died.
It seems like this girl has been through a lot and I don't want to hurt her feelings...What should I do??
PS- She thinks I'm a guy!! Lol, I'll post the emails in a sec...
Answers:
Be careful. She may not be what she seems either. You didn't tell the truth, this person may not be either. I am highly suspicious - Divine from Senegal? I don't think so.
I'd break off contact. Whatever you do, don't give any personal information at all and don't send any money.
This sounds highly fishy. Don't respond again and block her.
Delete all future e-mails and don't reply. It's more than likely a sob story rip off scheme. Don't worry about hurt feelings, theyll find another victim.
Just stop emailing her if you don't want to confront. Otherwise, you need to tell her the truth. I know it'll hurt a little but the truth is always the best.
That's one of those con artists.. Next he'll be trying to get your bank account information so that he can deposit some big cheque that his parents left him but he can't do it in his country, he needs someone in the US to do it or they will take the money away from him..
It sounds like a scam...she'll be asking you for money soon.
okay who cares what the emails said. Secondly now you know its a dating site. what should you do...Stop emailing her back its that simple..Its a scam artist just like all those that send you emails saying they have millions in a bank account and youve been chosen to recieve some of it. Just block her address stop being stupid
I agree with bozema, stop the contact now. Do not send any money and such, alot of these site lure younger people in and they feel for a person (as in feel sorry for them) and then they swindle there way into your pocket book, break you and send ya a dear john letter. I have seen these scams on certain t.v. programs on how to keep yourself safe and so on. Just let her no it was nice meeting her, but you don't think this is the kind of thing for you, and you can always block her from your email list.
Omg, I couldn't read that without having a stupid smirk on my face... She didn't get that you said you were 1 year old and your owner needed to give you another photo shoot? Yikes! Don't write back..and for your sake, I would stay away from the doggie dating site...good luck! (p.s. I would call TBS because I think that ranks higher than a sorta funny.)
That is funny, thanks for sharing but let it go with this person. You don't have to feel bad or explain.
Notice how she writes "Dearest" and "yours forever". It might be a money scam like the answers above me stated or it could be one of those people who want to marry an American so that they can move here legally.
Why else would someone be on a dating site when they are in as desperate of a state as she claims to be?
My sister's Cambodian boss offered my sister a few thousand dollars if she was willing to marry his brother so that he could move to the U.S legally. Then after a few years he would pay for the divorce.
My sister refused but a co-worker of hers accepted.
Things like this happens all the time -- especially online.
My guess is that your "Miss Divine" is looking for an easy ticket to the U.S. too. It just seems fishy like that.
just put it nicely like...
Divine,
i'm really sorry but you must think i'm a man. i thought you were writing as your dog was talking. i'm really sorry, but we can still be frinds. i just misthought about you thought you were replieing as i was. as if the dogs were talking and we were writing. i hope you forgive me. maybe you can come to michigan and we can hang out together, like go to a dog park and let our dogs get to know each other.once again, i am really sorry. i know you were though a lot, but what if you come to michigan and think you're going to meet a man, but instead you meet a girl? lol. but i think we can still hang out if you aren't too mad at me. sorry!
sincerely, (your name here.)
i hope this helps! you don't have to copy it word for word. you can if you want, but this is how i would put it. i really hope this helps!!
It is a scam. She'll ask for money soon.
this gal doesnt seem wrapped to tight why bother...lol maybe a few items short of a combo platter??..lmao good luck with it and i guess have fun with her..lol
